Zamboanga City - The first of two scheduled five-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Family Preparedness under Project Prosper commenced Monday, February 11, 2019. The TOT is joined by various stakeholders from the local government unit, down to the purok and family levels coming from the municipalities of Imelda and Kabasalan in Zamboanga Sibugay and from Barangays San Jose Gusu and Boalan in Zamboanga City.
The first and second day of the training were devoted mainly on activity orientation, expectation settings, and reviews of the basic concepts of disaster risk reduction and management and its legal bases, including the Philippine and Zamboanga Peninsula disaster situations. Family preparedness was tackled and discussed heavily beginning on the third day where various tools such as Family Capacities and Vulnerabilities Matrix, Family Early Warning System Roles and Responsibilities, Home Escape Plan, and Family Emergency Contact Plan, among others were introduced. Training management and some tips on how to facilitate were also provided so participants could take on the lead role of transferring the knowledge they acquired to their constituencies.
Family Preparedness module was developed in the context of the covered communities. After this Training of Trainers, participants are expected to cascade the module to the communities in a series of purok trainings. The target is for families to have a family preparedness plan in every purok, and a family drill is to be undertaken at the purok level.
Ms. Fenna Joyce Moscare, Project Manager of CDP's engagement in Eastern Visayas, and Ms. Maria Theresa Britanico, CDP consultant, served as main facilitators in the training, while the project team served as co-facilitators.
