#MindanaoEarthquakeMap CDP Crisis Response Hub

M7.8 Sarangani Earthquake | June 8, 2026

At 7:37 in the morning on June 8, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook the whole of southern Mindanao. It is the strongest to hit the Philippines since 1990. At least 37 people have died. Hundreds more are injured. Thousands of families lost their homes overnight.

 

Our teams reached out immediately to our partner organizations across the region. Here is what they are telling us from the ground.

 

 

What our partners are reporting:

 

In Surallah, South Cotabato, the Talahik Farmers Association flagged that local disaster officials are now watching Lake Maughan closely. The lake historically caused severe flooding in the late 1990s, and they are worried the aftershocks could trigger the same. A community member's fence has already collapsed.

 

In Tagum, Davao del Norte, our partners at BSIPWDA reported ceiling collapses and cracked walls in their community. They also flagged something that stopped us: a group of persons with disabilities in General Santos City has lost access to clean water. They are reportedly drinking from septic tanks. This is a health emergency and it needs attention now.

 

Further out, our partners in South Upi, Bukidnon, Aleosan, Surigao del Sur, and Agusan del Sur checked in. They are safe. But many of them felt strong shaking and are frightened by the continuing aftershocks. Over 1,100 aftershocks have been recorded since Monday morning.

 

What we need:

 

Our local partners are women's organizations, farmers' associations, indigenous peoples' groups, and persons with disabilities organizations. They are already doing the work. They were doing it before the cameras arrived, and they will still be doing it long after. What they need is resources to reach their communities.
