CDP eyes school as hub for collaboration and integrated thinking in local resilience building in Zam

Langatian, Roxas, Zamboanga Del Norte - "Simula palang ito ng ating nasimulang samahan; ngayong mas nabuksan ang aming isip sa kahalagahan ng kolaborasyon at pagtutulungan para sa kapakanan ng lahat lalo na ng mga kabataan, asahan niyo ang aming taos pusong suporta", said Roxas Central School and Special Education (SPED) Center Head, Mr. Dennipher Rillera during a 2-day School DRRM Orientation and Evacuation Planning on earthquake and tsunami.

The orientation and planning was organized by the Center for Disaster Preparedness, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Roxas through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by Engr. Von Vallecer; Bureau of Fire Protection headed by Engr. Rey Gumandao; Roxas Central School Head Dennipher Rillera and School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, Caroline Tomales.

A total of 45 school representatives from both the regular and SPED program joined the activity which aims to provide knowledge and enhance capacity of the academe members on DRRM concepts, process and laws particularly focusing on the Department of Educatios' DRRM framework and protocols.

The participants developed together an initial draft of their evacuation plan for earthquake and tsunami which will then be further improved in a series of workshops among the technical working group formed among them. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Municipal DRRM Office has expressed commitment to assist the school in conducting simulation exercises by July in time for the Disaster Resilience Month.
