*Everyone is Ready, No One Left Behind, a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Inclusive Community- Based Disaster Risk and Management (ICBDRRM) with Integration of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

The Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP) in partnership with Malteser International conducted “Training of Trainers (ToT) on Inclusive Community- Based Disaster Risk and Management (ICBDRRM) with Integration of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH),” through the project entitled, “Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction in Typhoon prone coastal areas of Northern Samar Province, Philippines.”

A total of 75 participants took part in the activity from the municipalities of Catarman and Laoang together with the representatives of College of Science of the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP), Philippine Red Cross, Diocese Social Action Council-Caritas Catarman, and Malteser International. Barangay (Brgy.) Captains, Brgy. Kagawads, Brgy. Health Workers, Brgy. Secretaries, Brgy. Tanods, teachers and Persons with Disabilities from the villages of Bangkerohan, Cawayan, Daganas, Dalakit, Jose Abad Santos, Old Rizal and UEP Zone 2 in Catarman; as well as from the villages of Baybay, Candawid, Pangdan, Salvacion and Tan-awan in Laoang actively joined the 6-day engagement.

The Training Capacity and Development program of CDP spearheaded the initiative together with the Research, Knowledge Exchange and Management Program that supported the writing of the guidebook on ICBDRRM with WASH that was also pre-tested in the said training. The said guidebook was adapted from the CBDRRM Basic Instructor’s Guide (BIG) and Lahat Handa (Everyone is Ready): ICBDRRM Training Manual.

The ToT focused on three modules: (1) Understanding the fundamentals of inclusion; (2) The Philippine Disaster Context and importance of ICBDRRM and WASH; and, (3) Inclusive Community Risk Assessment with WASH (CRA). The participants also completed Transect Walk and Town- watching in the village of Daganas and undergone a practicum of all the modules.

The training on the three remaining modules on (4) Preparedness, Prevention and Mitigation; (5) Disaster Response mechanisms and preparations for rehabilitation and recovery; and, (6) Training Management and Planning is scheduled on August 2017.
