About the event

Whether it is framed as community-led development, localisation or decolonisation, we have heard growing calls for donors and INGOs to employ an anti-racist approach to development and humanitarian assistance by shifting resources and decision-making power closer to local and community organisations.

While some of the loudest critiques have been from outside the mainstream, people from some of the big development institutions have helped drive this shift. Several funders have created spaces and resources to experiment and innovate or tease out the things local organisations are already doing, that work.

In this session we will:

  • hear from local actors and funders about their experiences to date
  • discuss what’s either supporting or preventing funders and local actors from taking different approaches?
  • explore how they can support new kinds of civic participation and promote a bottom up, democratic approach to development?

This session is run in partnership with Centre for Disaster Preparedness (Philippines), GlobalGiving, Global Fund for Community Foundations, Nonprofit Finance Fund.
