Second National Conference of Communities in Disaster Risk Management
The 2nd National Conference of Communities in Disaster Risk Management will be held on 12-13 September 2008 at the Institute of Social Order, Ateneo De Manila University, Quezon City. The theme of the conference is: “Communities Linking Arms for Safety, Disaster Preparedness and Resilience”.
The objectives of the conference are: (1) Understand the vital role of communities in the Community Based Disaster Risk Management through the exchange of experiences; (2) Determine the immediate and long-term requisites and needs of the communities to promote CBDRM; (3) Promulgate widespread support coming from various stakeholders; and (4) Strengthen the partnership among communities who are committed in DRM.
There are 100 participants coming from People’s Organizations, Barangay and communities invited to the conference. They are expected to share the activities and efforts taken by their respective communities in relation to CBDRM and commit to continue what has been discussed and agreed upon among their organizations and the community. Various communities are invited to prepare exhibits about their CBDRM activities.
